First Sight
Apr. 21st, 2017 04:31 amAnd so, we begin our snark of "Midnight Sun", the book has Edward's point of view - which is nightmarish enough. But luckily, it's only 12 chapters since Meyer threw a hissy fit and didn't finished it. Word to the wise, good luck my friend and good speed when reading.
My snarkery and commentary is in purple. White is actual quotes.
Of course, look at the special snowflake judging teenage boys for Hades forbid, being teenage boys.
Rosalie’s mind was a shallow pool with few surprises.
Eh, considering that Rosalie only has her beauty - since she lost everything she wanted when she was turned, I'm not going to judge her for being vain. After all, her beauty is all she has left of her previous life.
And Jasper was…suffering. I suppressed a sigh.
Firstly, if Jasper is still a danger to society, WHY in the name of Hades risk him sending him to high school?
Both freaks among those who were already freaks.
Oh I'm sure Alice would LOVE hearing that. Why? The woman when she was alive, she was sent to a mental institution during the 1910s-1920s, which I know wasn't a life in the park, to the point of Alice having little memory of it.
“It helps a little if you think of them as people,” Alice suggested.
Excuse me. They ARE people, just because you are "vampires", doesn't mean you ought to dehumanize people.
The thought of her reaction almost made me smile.
Yes, because terrifying the living daylights out of a teen with an infatuation is so good!
Jessica and her classmates had no idea how lucky they were that none of them particularly appealed to me.
I know this is a "plot" point, but I find it hilarious that he thinks that. I'm sure if they got to know what a douche he is, they'd be happy to have been 'passed over'.
I felt the strangest urge to step in between them, to shield this Bella Swan from the darker workings of Jessica’s mind.
Because of course Jessica is (I'm sure this is it) planning a satanic ritual and use Bella as a sacrifice. Because otherwise, holy exagerattion Batman.
It was doubtful Mr. Banner, a man of no more than average intellect, would manage to pull out anything in his lecture that would surprise someone holding two graduate degrees in medicine.
Humble brag. Also douche.
My features had not changed, but it seemed to me like some of his wisdom had marked my expression, that a little of his compassion could be traced in the shape of my mouth, and hints of his patience were evident on my brow.
A few things: A) Carlisle is not wise - if he were Jasper would not be in school. Actually, none of them would be in school since there’s a high risk of them going all “nom-nom-nom” on people.
B) Carlisle’s compassion is debatable at best. The man turned dying people who were not able to say no (note: Rosalie did begged him to let her die… we all know how that one went).
C) Edward, you are not someone I would describe as “pacient”. And I wouldn’t describe you as compassionate or wise. Bitch, please.
The innocent bystanders in this classroom, eighteen other children and one man, could not be allowed to leave this room, having seen what they would soon see.
I flinched at the thought of what I must do.
And here he is talking about murdering people, just because he got the scent of Bella and wants to eat her. Our hero everybody.
In my head, Carlisle’s kind eyes did not judge me. I knew that he would forgive me for this horrible act that I would do. Because he loved me.
Because of course he would. Screw the dead people, his son is GOOD! Ugh.
He’s almost young enough to be my son. Too young to think of that way…
Of course even grown women want Edward. Did you guys expected something different?
The monster waited anxiously, hungrily, for me to do it.
This is something that Edward does, he separates his self with that of his vampiric nature. And with that, we have this duality that on other, better written books it would have been an interesting thing. Sadly, here the only thing is that it makes it look like Edward wants to avoid responsibility for his actions by blaming "the monster".

High School. Or was purgatory the right word? If there was any way to atone for my sins, this ought to count toward the tally in some measure.
No. You listen to me you little shit. High school is in no way whatsoever a way to atone your sins. You killed people. You went on a vigilante inspired kills, so excuse me while I don't see it as a way to atone your sins. In fact, nothing and I repeat NOTHING you do comes even close to atoning your sins.
Half the sheep-like males were already imagining themselves in love with her, just because she was something new to look at.No. You listen to me you little shit.
